Zorkie Nelson

Zorkie was born into the Ga tribe, in the southern part of Ghana. He was raised in a house called Sakuino Tgo Elushi This is the residence of the Chief Priest, where one gets very good training.

His father was a fisherman. As a child, Zorkie would follow his father to the beach every morning to help with the work. It was there that he also learned to sing and dance from all the people surrounding him.. This is where he found the early influence for his musicianship.

Zorkie Nelson has been a master musician for the past 24 years.

He has been a a number of groups, including, We Su Ma, Ebaahi-Gbi Ko, Ebaahi Sounds, Lumei, Eshi Nyomor Mo and Tsui Anaa Traditional African music and dance groups,

In 1988, he became one of the founding members of the Pan African Orchestra. The PAO originated in Ghana and found its way around the world.

The first PAO album, Opus 1, was recorded in the UK in 1994, featured Zorkie as conductor as well as playing drums, flute and light percussion.

In 1997 Zorkie toured the US, Canada, France and once again, the UK. That same year, he won an award which enabled him to tour Denmark with the Ghana National Dancing Ensemble. Later on in '97 he won a contract to work in the US with the Odadaa. Since then, he has remained in the US where he continues to perform and teach his art.
